Infineta this week launched to provide WAN optimization appliances for multi-gigabit inter-data center traffic. The company, which was founded in 2008 by CEO Raj Kanaya (formerly of Citrix) and CTO K.V.S. Ramarao (formerly of Cisco), is seeking to accelerate bandwidth for customers with enterprise-class replication and backup. The company claims that solutions such as Riverbed’s SteelHead appliances are built for multi-megabyte links rather than the multi-gigabit links seen in today’s data centers.

Infineta uses the Velocity Dedupe Engine, a hardware-based data reduction technology, to secure increased throughput, scalability and bandwidth. The company expects to ship the Infineta Velocity Dedupe Engine in the second half of this year.
