Improved storage management features and REST API enhance functionality

March 25, 2013

Nimbus Data Systems Monday announced the release of its HALO 2013 storage operating system with enhancements for storage management and cloud infrastructure deployment. The all-solid state storage system manufacturer now has over 330 systems in production operation.

The new management features include analytics that provide real-time detail and historical information regarding performance of the storage systems. The new tool set tracks over 200 metrics, including flash endurance, capacity utilization, latency, power consumption, deduplication rates and overall system health. Statistics are stored in an industry standard RRD format which allows the use of both Nimbus provided analysis and third-party tools.

Nimbus has released an open REST API to its management tools, allowing access to all management functions via internet protocol. Through the API, users can perform all management functions including provisioning iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, and NFS datastores. The interface can report on deduplication efficiency and create snapshots.

Nimbus has also developed mobile tools that run on Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems. This allows convenient access to all management functions from a smart phone or pad device. The mobile tools are available as free downloads from Apple iTunes Store and Google Play store.

HALO 2013 and the mobile tools are available as a free download for all current Nimbus customers with an active support contract.
