Primary Data, a company that virtualizes data across a single global namespace, launched on Wednesday at DEMO Fall 2014.
Data virtualization allows applications, servers and clients to transparently access data whether it is on direct-attached, network-attached, private or public cloud storage or whether it is file, block or object-based storage.
Primary Data’s virtualization platform includes a data hypervisor that decouples the access plane from the control plane. It also includes a global dataspace that gives IT visibility int0 storage resources. A policy engine provides data placement on the appropriate tier of storage. Metadata is separated from the data to provide access to all data types and tiers of storage.
Primary Data was founded by David Flynn, formerly of Fusion-io. The company also announced that Steve Wozniak has joined the company as Chief Scientist.
