Alliance Storage Technologies on Tuesday announced a new version of its archiving hardware, NETArchive Version 2, which archives, managements, optimizes and protects data through its lifecycle.

NETArchive uses Sony’s UDO optical storage technology, high-performance disk and cloud tiers to provide an array that can scale to as much as 1.6PB in a single rack.

In addition, the new NETArchive has 3 times the system cache of previous models and offers scalability of 4TB to 72TB. A built-in Transparent Archive Migration Facility also ships with the array.

NETArchive works with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.

NETArchive version 2 is expected to be available in Q2 of this year.

Why Should You Care: Alliance Storage has taken a multi-tier array and put it to work as an archive appliance. Unique to NETArchive, is its use of the Sony Ultra Density Optical technology.
