MapR on Tuesday announced MapR-XD, a datastore used to manage files and containers and supports any data type located at any location whether on-premises or in the cloud.

The MapR-XD is part of MapR’s Converged Data Platform, which provides policy-based tiering of hot, warm or cold data.

MapR-XD includes support for files and containers and provides security, data protection and high availability. It supports a variety of APIs for file access including NFS, POSIX and HDFS.

MapR-XD can scale to trillions of files and thousands of commodity servers or cloud instances. It features fully distributed metadata, point-in-time snapshots and distributed mirroring.

The product works with multiple schedulers including kubernetes, mesos and docker swarm.

MapR-XD is available now.
