Connected Data on Wednesday announced Transporter Genesis, a private cloud appliance that provides like-function Dropbox and Box features. It is designed for corporate IT and includes the visibility and control offered by separate network attached storage.

Transporter Genesis allows customers to store data on-premises without the per monthly charge of cloud services and without replacing legacy storage. With Genesis, IT admins can create private clouds to sync, access and share files from computers and mobile devices.

With Genesis, all data is automatically synced across authorized devices. The IT admin can control the location of where data is stored and its redundancy, integrate it with Microsoft Active Directory, and monitor and control versioning, auditing and read-only access.

Genesis provides as much as 24TB per node. Nodes can be clustered together.

Transporter Genesis is expected to be available in November starting at 12TB capacity for $9,999.
