Formation Data Systems on Monday announced that it has added replication capabilities to its software-defined storage system FormationOne Dynamic Storage Platform.

The asynchronous replication capability, called SafeGuard, allows customers to migrate secondary data to the Amazon Web Services Cloud where it can be used for disaster recovery, archive or mobility use cases.

Data is replicated bi-directionally and asynchronously in an encrypted fashion both in transit and at rest. In addition, data is compressed and deduplicated.

Data sets can be archived in AWS Glacier and data protection management functions are managed by a GUI or REST API.

SafeGuard is expected to be available this month as an upgrade to FormationOne deployments.

Why Should You Care: FDS added more functionality to their FormationOne Dynamic Storage Platform (FormationOne), which now offers replication, additional global data protection and copy data management natively with no need for gateways or appliances. FormationOne is leveraging AWS for these features and targeting use cases for disaster recovery, and backup and archive services.
